Coffee Crisis Update – A Huge Relief!

by | Mar 4, 2025 | Newsletters

February has been a powerful month of progress in Wawa Sumaco, where we’re working alongside local families to grow food, protect coffee plants, and improve infrastructure.

Coffee Crisis Update – A Huge Relief!

Last month, we asked for urgent support as we faced an unexpected funding delay for our coffee farmers. We are thrilled to share fantastic news—after months of waiting, we’ve just received confirmation that our G20 funding has been approved and will be arriving soon!

This funding will help us move forward with planting and maintaining our coffee crops, ensuring that our farmers can continue their work and that the sustainable agriculture model we’ve built together remains strong. Your support has kept us going during this waiting period, and we can’t thank you enough!

Food for Families

Thanks to our partnership with Earth Rising Foundation, Indigenous women farmers received seedlings of cucumbers, squash, and other vegetables. These plants will provide nutritious food for families and income at local markets, ensuring economic resilience and food security.

Building a Stronger Future Together

Across the community, we’ve been working on much-needed infrastructure improvements, from reinforcing cabins to plastering walls. The entire team has been pitching in—including Marta and Elsa hammering nails, and Edwin working on plastering. Thanks to Lindblad Expeditions, we’re making these essential upgrades possible.

How You Can Help:

Every contribution—big or small—makes a tangible difference. $10 can provide vegetable seedlings, and $100 can help fund building materials. If you’ve given before, we thank you deeply. If you’d like to renew your support or make your first gift, now is the perfect time.

Donate Today

Together, we’re growing a stronger, more resilient community. Thank you for being part of this journey.

With deep gratitude,
Ellen Jacobson
